Computer Desk

Computer DeskIt looks just like a traditional desk. The only indication that there is anything inside is a single power and network cable, the keyboard/mouse pullout and the vents on the back. I made this for myself as a sort of R&D project. In retrospect I'm not sure why I used Maple melamine instead of plywood.

This desk currently contains two computers, a laser printer, a KVM and a UPS. Being designed for maximum space utilization, there is almost as much drawer space as one would expect from a similarly sized traditional desk. There's a lateral file drawer and three regular drawers (1-small, 2-medium)

Drawers

Lateral File DrawerThe bottom drawer on the right side of the desk has a standard lateral file rack with extra 6 x 9" envelope, CDR spindle, etc. storage behind. The drawer above it is a printer drawer with a releasable fold down face (a printer with a paper cassette would be better). Above that is generous sized pencil drawer. The two medium sized darwers on the left side of the desk have a built-in CD storage rack.

Keyboard Tray

Keyboard Tray The keyboard/mouse tray can slide sideways so that the keyboard can be moved to a comfortable position (e.g. centered on the desk). The tray has a spring loaded open assist that also lightly latches the tray in the open position.

CPU

CPUA standard desktop computer is mounted to a pullout shelf with full extension drawer slides. When the desks drop front face is opened the CPU shelf automatically extends ~2-1/2". When access to the rear or interior of the case is required the CPU shelf can be disconnected from the drop front face. To reduce vibration induced harmonics the CPU is isolated from the rest of the desk using rubber anti-vibration mounts. The second PC (behind the printer and file drawers) is similarily isolated. The desk can accommodate switches (KVM, power, etc.) and CD/DVD drive behind another drop-down face at the top of the desk.
